How to upgrade LV v2.2.1 to 3.0.4 from EE2.5.5 website before upgrading to EE3.5.4.

shinymuhammed 8 May 2017 07:40 question, complete

Downloaded LV v3.0.4.

How can I upgrade LV v2.2.1 to 3.0.4 from EE2.5.5 website before upgrading to EE3.5.4.

As per the instructons from http://gotolow.com/addons/low-variabl... ,

I can overwrite the low_varible folder in /system/expressionengine/third_party (from

EE2.5.5 website) directory with low_variables folder in downloaded folder

(low_variables_v304) of low variables version3.0.4.

What will I do with low_variable folder in /themes/third_party directory(from EE2.5.5 website)? Delete this folder or Keep this folder as such in that directory?

Make sure the low_variables folder (the v3.0.4 version) is in /system/user/addons.

There is no /system/expressionengine/third_party folder in EE3, so you can delete the LV files from there.

LV for EE3 doesn't use theme folder files, so you can remove the /themes/third_party/low_variables directory.

Currently I am working on EE2.5.5 and trying to upgrade of LV version 2.2.1 to version3.0.4 from EE2.5.5.

After upgrding LV only I can upgrade EE2.5.5 to EE3.5.4.

Tried upgrading to EE3.5.4 without upgrading LV(just adding addon.setup.php file)

    got warning message-

    Warning
Parameter 1 to Low_variables_ext::sessions_end() expected to be a reference, value given
    C:/xampp/htdocs/intranet3/system/ee/legacy/libraries/Extensions.php, line 243 hide details

Currently I did following steps to upgrade LV to version3.0.4 from EE2.5.5 Vesion:-

    1. Overwite the folder low_variable in /system/expressionengine/third_party by using

low_varable folder from downloaded latest verion lowvariable from my system ie

    C:\Users\vcuqweb\Desktop\Expression Engine\EE-software-addons\ low_variables_v304\low_variables_v304\low_variables.

    2. Delete the folder low_variable from /themes/third_party.

    Then got the ERROR

    on FRONT END(http://localhost/intranet-backup/inde...)

Fatal error: Call to undefined method EE::get() in C:\xampp\htdocs\intranet-backup\system\expressionengine\third_party\low_variables\base.low_variables.php on line 110(sceenshot1 attached)

    on BACK END (http://localhost/intranet-backup/admi...)

Fatal error: Call to undefined method Addons_modules::get() in C:\xampp\htdocs\intranet-backup\system\expressionengine\third_party\low_variables\base.low_variables.php on line 110.(screenshot2 attached)

    HOW to resolve this error?

Please advice me on how to upgrade low variable from 2.2.1 to 3.0.4 on an EE2.5.5 site.

My aim is to upgrade our intranet EE2.5.5 CMS website to EE3.5.4.

Before implementing this on live site, trying to implement this on local test server.

As per the statement in http://gotolow.com/addons/low-variabl...
    LV-3.0.4 is Compatible to: EE1, EE2, EE3.

No, that statement says Low Variables is compatible with EE1, EE2 and EE3. You need the correct version of LV along with the correct version of EE to make it work, see http://gotolow.com/addons/low-variabl...

The latest version (v3) is compatible with EE3 and requires EE 3.0.0+. The legacy version (v2) is compatible with EE2 and requires EE 2.4.0+.

You cannot use LV v2.x with EE3, nor can you use LV v3.x with EE2.x.

    If you're running EE2, use LV v2.x.
    If you're running EE3, use LV v3.x.

If you're upgrading EE2 to EE3, upgrade EE first, then put the v304 version of the low_variables folder in the /system/user/addons folder and upgrade LV from v2.x to v3.x from the EE3 CP. Do not try and upgrade LV to v3.x from within the EE2 CP as that will not work.
