Restricting Variable Groups by Member Group

stinhambo 12 Mar 2010 06:35 question, complete

Is there a way to restrict groups to specific member groups? For example I use global variables to store the doctype and head section rather than using an embed.

Of course I don't want those pesky kids (clients) meddling with the site code!

Hi! Group restricting isn't possible at the moment. However, you can hide certain variables from non-managers by making use of prefixes. For example, if your prefix is 'my', and in the extension settings you set 'Do what...' to 'hide prefixed variables', these variables will still be available in the User Defined Global variables in the Templates section, but will remain hidden in the Low Variables module.

And you can override this for variable managers by setting 'Ignore prefix rules for variable managers' to 'Yes' (which is on by default).

    Does that help?
