Making custom field types

Matthew Weinberg 18 Feb 2010 08:28 idea, complete

Hi Low,

Thanks for this great idea.

In this post you mention developers making custom field types:

I just wanted to add my vote to that. One of the best things about FieldFrame for me is that I can make custom fields that are very specific to the site I'm working on. I think the ability to do that here would be great as well. Is that already possible, just undocumented? Or is the API difficult?

    Hey Matt,

I already made the API public. Check out the docs on how to create your own variable type.

There are currently two non-native variable types that I know of:

I will be expanding the API as new requests come, and I'm thinking of writing up a post explaining how to port a FieldFrame fieldtype to a Variable Type.

Wow, for some reason I just skipped right over that. Sorry about that Low-- reading now!
