I can't see the date variable type in selection list

I have EE 2.10.1 and LV 2.6.1. I have the date fieldtype installed. However, I can't see the date type variable in the selection list. What could be the problem?

   The Date variable type is only available in v3.0.0, the EE3-compatible version.

   Is there any plan to update EE2 version to include date fieldtype?

   No, the EE2-version has been feature frozen and will only receive bug and security fixes.
