Possible to exclude special characters in a search?

Nick Bedard 2 Dec 2015 14:53 question, complete

We are working on a site that has a lot of product numbers/sku's. The client would like a product to appear if the user searches for the number but inadvertantley forgets the dashes in the number.

For example, we have a product number of BR202-I, which when searched appears. It also appears when searching for BR202 I (with a space) as it appears the special character is actually replaced with a space in the index. However, they would like a search for BR202I to appear as well...which is the product number minus the special character AND a space.

Any thoughts?

Thanks as always.

There currently is no out-of-the-box way to amend keywords like that.

You can add a searchable field to the channel where you add variations of the product numbers so it turns up in searches, which is probably the easiest workaround.

Otherwise, you're looking at an extension to change the keywords.
