Can I save a Matrix field as a file?

AJ Penninga 13 May 2015 21:24 question, complete

I have a large MSM install. 200+ sites. Since there isn't any easy way (that I know of) to copy variables across sites, I was thinking I'd use variables as files.

However, when I save a matrix field as a file, it only outputs "1" and that's it.

Help? thoughts? Ideas on copying lots of variables across sites?

Since Matrix stores its data in a different table than where the regular vars are saved, Matrix vars do not make sense to save as files. So no, not possible.

You'll need to resort to some custom SQL queries, I guess.

Boooo! But that'd be on P&T to support I would assume, not you.

    Ok, thanks Low!

Sorta. There's no API in place for letting 3rd party fields store their data as files. But even if there was, I have no idea how Matrix should save its data as a file, other than as a json string, or something. Not sure if that's even desirable.
