Show number of search results found in Search Log

Simon Hamp 6 Nov 2014 10:22 idea, complete

Is it possible to log the number of results found across all searched indexes for a search request at the point in time that the search was made and display this in the Search Log in the admin?

It would be really great for us to see, especially when no results are found so that we can see what people are searching for and hopefully provide relevant material to fill that need.

    See also https://getsatisfaction.com/low/topic...

As mentioned there, it's actually quite tricky to do this, due to limitations in the EE API. Changing this into a Feature Request to keep track of it.

As you may know, you can have multiple Results tag on a single page, displaying different results based on a single form.

How would you expect the total search results to be calculated if there are multiple Results tags?

Is there any way at getting at the ID of the new search query log row? That way you could update it after the results are in.

Ideally it would show how many results were returned from each of the searched indexes, individually e.g.:

    Results:
    Index 1: 12
    Index 2: 7
    Index 3: 9
