Search in Low variables

Dekker 4 Jun 2014 09:39 idea, rejected

All the content in my website are in channels or in Low variables. When I check the search log I notice visitors are looking for stuff like an address which is a Low variable.

It would be great if there would be a way to create a collection for the variables so visitors get better search results.

The thing is, Low Search will always return entries. Variables aren't entries, so LS can't return them as separate entities.

On top of that, global variables are intrinsically even less tied to a single page than EE channel entries. If you did manage to return a single var, where would you link it to?

I'd advise to keep content that needs to be searchable in channels, and content that is global (and therefore makes less sense to be searchable) in LV.

Thank you for your reply. I understand your objections for not making LV searchable.

I have thought of the linking. For every LV it has to be possible to add a link. But I know you will also miss something like a title.

I use LV for content that is unique and from which I think it is superfluous to create a new channel for it. For my new website I'm already keeping in mind that certain content has to be in an entry. I will make some adjustments to the old one.
