member group access to low vars (edit values only, not ext settings)

pirco 9 Jan 2014 20:37 question, complete

what's the best way to allow a specific (custom) member group access to manage low vars?

right now, the member group in question has access to the ADD-ONS section and ADD-ONS: Modules and the low vars extension settings allow this member group to manage low vars.

still, when a member of that group tries to access the extension, they can only edit the extension settings but currently cannot see or manage the low vars themselves ("not authorized").

in fact, I'd like it the other way around: this member group should NOT be able to manage the extension settings but should ONLY be able to edit the low vars.

possible?

Under Members -> Member Groups -> Edit Member Group, you can set permissions for accessing add-ons. Make sure the member group has access to the ADD-ONS: Modules section, but not the ADD-ONS: Extensions settings.

Then, in LV's extension settings, set the Variable Managers to the groups you want to be able to edit the var's properties. If you just want the members to edit the values of the vars, don't make the group a Manager.

That should give you the desired results. Non-managers can only see non-hidden variables, and can only edit the values of the vars.

    well, d'oh.

there is one other setting, at the very bottom of the "edit member group" interface.. that defines "module access privileges"... can't believe I didn't see/set that before!

    sorry and thanks
