Support for Markdown Textareas?

I know that I'm able to select a plain Textarea or Textarea (Rich Text) when creating a new variable, but I'd like to take advantage of EE's native support for Markdown formatting in textareas.

I can do it for custom fields, but can it be done in Low Variables?
