LowSearch combining and excluding categories - is it possible?

Hi!
I was wondering if it is possible with LowSearch to combine categories and exclude categories in the same search?
ie to retrieve items that are in category 1 and category 2 but not in category 3?
The DandyCat plugin is supposed to be ideal for this but I can't get it working in the way I expected...

   You should be able to do it with grouped categories:
   
   

   category:group1="1|2" category:group2="not 3"

   
   
   This should give you entries in category 1 or 2 but not in 3.
