End Time & Other Questions

leadsuccess 6 Aug 2012 09:38 question, complete

Ok before I purchase I want to know this, it's a question that may have been asked before.

Can I have my event stop at a certain time, say 8/31/2012 8:15PM?

Can I have that event simply grey out?

How does the system determine the time zone?

Thanks!

Yes, an event can stop at any time you want.

You can use the conditionals like {if event_dates:passed} to apply css classes to passed items, making them grey out.

The add-on uses the server time for time zone.

Thanks for the lightening fast reply; is there any work around to change the time zone? Basically the events will not usually be the server time and are entered by a site visitor.

Is there any chance that a charge per event posted can be added on?

There's no way around the time zone thing at the moment. Low Events was created to avoid that (and recurring events) to keep things simple. Does each event need to have a different time zone?

You can add any amount of custom fields to a channel, including the Event Dates that Low Events provides. So you can add a field for 'charge' as well.

Each event will be a separate timezone, it may be that I am pushing low events past it's design, which is great sounding btw. So I have requirements that I would like to see, but need something like low events extended.

For charging I wanted to actually charge a user to post an event on my site.

Different time zones per event isn't something that's on the roadmap for now. It might be something I can look at, but no promises there.

As for charging, that's definitely something outside of Low Events' scope. Basically, an event is just an entry with a start and end date, so you'd charge a user to post an entry. I'd look for solutions that handle that.

I am not looking to charge out of the box per event, something down the road, but I would like to see the timezone handled, even if that means paying for a little customization work.

I have done the event thing before in EE but major hacks were required with PHP. I like simple too, but Low Events seems suited for a church or something along those lines, that have in-house events only, mine will not be in-house.

There are no solution out there that I know off, moreEvents is way outside of the box for what I need it for and Low Events is very close.

Have you looked at Solspace Calendar? It might work for you, since you can make multiple 'calendars', each with a different timezone, to which you can add events.

Customization work can be discussed. Maybe better to do that privately. Drop me an email at hi at gotolow dot com for that.

Your addon still rocks the house so would love to see it implemented on my site and I have sent you an email.
