Tine Zone Pre-Sales question

soire 24 Jul 2012 05:32 question, complete

Hi Low

Wondering about time zones as they pertain to Low Event entries. I've created a site for a night club that already that uses an event system that I derived based on EE channel entries limited by the start_on="{current_time format='%Y-%m-%d %H:%i'}" parameter. The issue I'm having with this system is that the server time zone is not matching EE's time zone, therefore all event entries are getting shifted around if members have different localization settings than EE itself (which is incorrect, somehow, ...still can't wrap my head around that).

Needless to say, I'm intrigued by your add-on as it seems like it could potentially simplify a very convoluted situation for me. My question is: how or from where does Low Events get its date and time values? Do entries with a Low Events tag get displayed according to EE or according to the server...or?

Thanks and sorry for the lengthy, possibly confusing question!

Low Events currently uses the server time to calculate "now". The LE dates/times are stored as actual date/time values, not as timestamps, so no localisation is done to display the dates/times (apart from translations). The time displayed should be the same for all members, regardless of their timezone.

Hi, one question regarding this topic please. My server is located in the US and our site is focusing on events in central Europe, the problem is that when I use the LE "duration" to show how much time it's left before an event starts it displays +6 hours. Is there some easy fix to this?

    Thanks!

No easy fix at the moment, I'm afraid. Server time is still leading. I'll look into making a better setting for this, as EE 2.6 handles localisation better now.
