How does this product compare to Super Search from Solspace

Vaughn D. Taylor 22 May 2012 20:44 question, complete

Hi,

I'm using Super Search right now. I can't say I'm 100% pleased with it - the admin UI is somewhat lacking and unintuitive, and the documentation is somewhat thick. I use a couple of your products on my site (Reorder, Variables) and in general I've had a way better experience with your products. Your level of support also seems much better. I'm especially a big fan of how well Variables integrates with P&T's add ons. Anyway, I'm really looking for a better way of handling search and I will install this thing today if you can just give me some clarity on the advantages.

Thanks, Vaughn

Well, Solspace has put up a comparison table (click Compare) which indicates features. But of course, it's never as easy as just comparing features... Let me just say what I think are the strong features in LS, without badmouthing SS:

    * LS keyword searches are fast. This is because LS uses an index of entries that is searched. A large part of the processing time is done beforehand, not on the search itself. For example, on my test site with roughly 30k entries, a keyword search results page rendered in 0.3s.

    * You can use any of the channel:entries parameters as input fields in your search form, including search:field="" parameters, allowing for detailed filters. Also, there's a special conditional you can use to help you remember the search query entered; I tried to make the tags as simple as possible.

    * Keyword searches are accent/diacritic insensitive, and html is stripped out of the search index for more accurate search results.

    * There's an advanced find & replace utility in LS, which allows you to change text in multiple entries quickly and easily. There's a preview as a confirmation and a log to see which entries were affected, so you know exactly what happened to your content.

Also, LS is a relatively new add-on. I'm keen on adding new features as it matures more and more.

    Hope that helps.
