Alphabetical listing based on title and author

Jason Morehead 14 Apr 2012 15:40 question, complete

Based on what I've read about Low Alphabet so far, I think it'll work, but I just want to be sure before I purchase and start implementing it.

I'm working on a site that includes a library, i.e., a section where books are listed in alphabetical order by title and by author. However, the client has some requests that push it beyond a simple list.

For example, if they have books titled "Genesis" and "The Book of Genesis", they want both of those books to be listed under "G", rather than the first one be under "G" and the second one under "T". Also, they want books in the same letter organized by author last name. So if there's a book titled "Genesis" by John Smith, they want that sorted after "Genesis" by Bill Adams.

So right now, there's a channel field where they can enter the title in a sortable form (e.g., "Genesis", "Genesis, The Book of") and the author's name in a sortable form (e.g., "Smiith, John", "Adams, Bill"). Am I correct in assuming that these "sortable" fields would be used by the add-on in the "alpha_field" parameter to do the sorting. Have I understood that correctly?

    Hi Jason,

That's correct. As long as you enter the titles and author names as you describe, you can sort the entries by title and author by setting them in the orderby="" parameter: http://gotolow.com/addons/low-alphabe...
