Excerpt not working for matrix fields
When I use {low_search_excerpt} in the results tag, it works fine unless I select a matrix field as my excerpt in the collection. Using the latest version of low search as well as EE. All it returns it the number 1. The search seems to work and finds terms within those matrix fields (actually wygwam within the matrix fields.) But just returns the number 1 for the excerpt.

Can you check whether the Wygwam field in the Matrix is searchable in the Channel Fields settings?

Yes it is searchable, sorry I should of mentioned that it is the first thing I would of asked too.

Hi Matt,
I took a look and solved the issue.
If you change the Matrix settings so columns are searchable, you'll need to save each entry that contains that Matrix field again. That way the native DB field (in exp_channel_data) is populated with the searchable columns, which in turn is used to generate the excerpt.
