Search multiple channels with individual channel weighting

JamesAskew 24 Nov 2011 17:01 idea, complete

Ok so when running search results in low search you will mostly want to include multiple channel entries into the search results, and these are then sorted by a relevancy calculation.

What would be extremely useful is if you would be able to add a weighting to each individual channel.

Why? Well if half your entries are blogs, and half are articles with content you can sell, then ideally you would want these articles to err up the top of a relevancy search result. This will look much more organic than simply forcing all of the articles above the blogs.

Hi James, thanks for sharing your idea. I'll take it under consideration.

I've been thinking about this, and the way I see it could work well, is by adding a 'Collection modifier' option to each collection. Relevance scores for each entry found in a collection will be multiplied by this modifier (which also could be 0.5 for example, lowering relevance score).

This would only apply to keyword searches, though. Keyword-less searches have no relevance score to begin with, making a modifier meaningless.

    Would this work for you?

    That would work perfectly
