Returning no results, keywords tag blank

Low Search 1.0.7
PHP 5.3.6/MAMP

No matter what I do, I'm getting nothing in my results.
{exp:low_search:keywords query='{segment_3}'} is returning an empty string.

If I dig through the keywords method, it would seem that low_array_decode isn't returning anything no matter what I pass to it. If I try to log $str with that function, I get nothing.

   Well, obviously that's not what is supposed to happen. Is this online somewhere where I can take a look?

   I KNEW it was going to be something dumb.

   I was lowercasing all incoming requests per client request :(

   Im having the same problem and probably something silly
   However i'm not lowercasing anything
