Does Low Search also search through comments?
I was wondering... Low Search is blazingly fast because it indexes the entries beforehand and return them when needed, but does it also index comments? Comments are a big part of a sites' content, so it is kinda important...

Wouter

Hey Wouter,
Low Search currently does not search through comments, only entries themselves.
Whether comments are a big bart of a sites' content is debatable, but I hear your feature request. Let me follow up by asking some questions:
* When searching and getting a hit in a comment, do you want to return the comment itself or associated channel entry?
* Would it help if you could create a separate search collection just for a channel's comments?

In my case I want it to return the entry to which the comment is related as that will be the page I need to redirect to.
I understand that including the comments in the search results can have an impact on performance, but it would be great if it was a setting when creating the collection. You won't need it for every channel/collection...
A separate collection for just the comments would work just as well, maybe even better because you can choose what to search through.

I need this feature too, Comments are important part of my website and people would like to search them.

Hi Low,
I would love comment searching also.
The comments are an integral part of the conversation on our site and our number 1 request has been for comments to be included in search.
Did this request ever reach development phase?

Hey JH. No, it didn't. And I'm finding it hard to justify adding it to the core. It might be doable with an extension for LS tho.

Ok no problems. My own use case would be building a discussion forum from channel, entries and comments.
The website content is quite technical so a lot of useful stuff from members in comments in other sections of website also.
Are there any extensions available for LS already in the wild? Something I could use as a base?
Low 18 Dec 2014 13:33
There's this one, which adds the titles of the related entries to the search index. In the same fashion, an extension could be built to query the comments and add them to the search index. Then use the Comment hooks to update the index for entries that have those comments assigned.
If you're not up for it to build it yourself, you could commission me to build it for you.
