Duplicating site with MSM does not duplicate Low Variable settings

johndwells 30 Oct 2010 20:59 problem, rejected

Hi Low,

I'm building an MSM site and just duplicated all settings, including global variables. However Low Variables doesn't appear to hook into the process, and as a result I have to re-configure all variables for this new site. Any chance this can be remedied?

Cheers,
John

    Hey John,

I've just taken a look at the MSM copy site code, and it looks like it's not possible to copy the LV data (or other 3rd party data that's stored in separate tables for that matter) along with the rest of the data.

There have been requests for export/import of LV, which is something that's on the todo list. Would that help your situation as well?

This would be very much appreciated. I am working on a suite of MSM sites right now and I have to create the same 100 variables for every site...

    Hi Low,

Thanks for looking into this. I suppose an import/export would be a suitable workaround - having spent a weekend with MSM I'm finding that cloning a site is FAR more convoluted than online docs might suggest, so anything that can simplify steps would be great.

I've just run into a similar "wall" with FieldFrame / Matrix cells not cloning properly, between yours and Brandon's remarks it seems evident that the MSM clone code is not quite as "hookable" as necessary.

Anyway, this isn't the time or place for me to winge - thanks for your attention, and yes please consider this a "plus 1" vote in favour of import/export!

    Cheers,
    John
