Difference between Low Variables and eMarket's String Plugin

Hot Limbo 15 Aug 2010 14:07 question, complete

Would I be correct to assume that there is something similar between the two plugins? Moreover, Low Variables being more for more "globalised" settings for variables whereas the String Plugin is more "localised" in, say, to a template?

As a reference eMarkets String Plugin link: http://www.emarketsouth.com/add-ons/s...

I haven't used the String plugin, but from what I can tell, there are plenty of differences between the two add-ons.

Most important one, in my opinion: String is a plugin, so it only works with existing data. You can use it to evaluate, re-use and move existing data, but you cannot use it to create new data, and neither can clients. Low Variables gives you an interface to edit existing data and create new vars.

Your local vs global scope is somewhat correct, but comparing the two is almost an apples/oranges comparison.
